Returning for our 4th year, we're bringing six dynamic shows from across the country to Fresno for one fabulous weekend! Produced by Jayne Day & Minion Productions. Sponsored by the Rogue Festival to bring first-class fringe theater performances to Fresno year-round.
September 8-10, 2017 Performing at MIA Studio & Gallery Fresno's Tower District 620 E Olive Ave., Fresno, CA 93728 Line-Up Includes: “Wet-Wired for Weird (Even Wetter?)” by Shane Scurvy Spears -- A delightfully acidic series of ill connected vignettes and passionate rants about kinky sex, internet culture, end times, true noir, and shameful thoughts; collected and curated with only one rule…..no segues: featuring the verbal machine gun misanthrope Shane “Scurvy” Spears, creator of hit shows We All Hate You and Cap’n Scurvy’s Apocalypse Hoedown Revival -- “Nothing is beautiful; Everything is fine” by Alexandra Beth Tiscareno & Fresno Dance Collective- NOCO A dance piece on 3 themes: Human Connection | Conformity | Wonder -- In angsty political & social times, art is where we explore current ideas, express our voices and manifest hope. The lens through which we see our lives may change from hour to hour, day to day… sometimes our perceptions and patterns of thought extend throughout long seasons and lifetimes. But in this refreshing thought experiment, we look at the world through different lenses and practice tolerance -- “Scratchers” by Laura Splotch -- The story of a dreamer, beat down by life but keeps on dreaming about the big win...with scratchers. Barbie q is the queen of the trailer park and works hard - hard being the operative word here - at keeping that title. Maybe, just maybe, she will come out on top... -- "Shenatra! and Liberace: A Concert From Hell” by Donna Kay Yarborough & Nate Butler -- Frank Sinatra is in hell...literally. He's been turned into a dame, and his new show partner is the one-and-only Liberace. Can these two legends get past their earthly differences to once again sing with the angels? Featuring Fresno legend Nate Butler and Rogue favorite Donna Kay Yarborough -- “Girl On A Bike” by Nat Vickers -- A two-wheeled adventure of Canadian proportions! Girl On A Bike spins strange-but-true stories of characters from a ride across the country: from graveyard groundskeepers, to wild west proprietors, and wanderers with secrets only fit for strangers. Girl On A Bike is a one-woman storytelling show that retraces a real-life bike ride across the country, from Halifax to Vancouver, uphill and against the wind the whole way -- “Robert’s Eternal Goldfish" by Brad McEntire -- In this weird and comic solo show by Brad McEntire, the audience comes face to face with Mr. Robert J. Roberts. Roberts has a huge problem with people. All people. One day he becomes the unlikely custodian of a magical goldfish and Mr. Roberts' misanthropic view of the world is seriously challenged -- Tickets $10 Buy at the door or in advance at: Coming Soon! Grant Evan Knutson, of Minion Productions, has brought the much enjoyed Fringe Factor game show back to Rogue for three rounds and a lightning round of fun-filled antics. The Sunday matinee I saw brought local performers Kyle Elder (Magic Of Elder), Joshua Ryan Taylor (Thanks For Coming) and Eileen Imperatrice (representing Tony Imperatrice of I’m a Musician: Would You Like Fries With That?) competing against visiting performers Martin Dockery (Moonlight After Midnight and Delirium), Anna Sell (Sh*t Show…), and both performers from Figmentally, Drea Lusion and Eric Parthum. It was a wild ride of competition, showcasing the comedy and off-stage personalities of these Rogue performers on the Mia Cuppa stage. The three rounds were made up of an Infomercial competition where the Locals had to sell an atom and the Visitors had to sell an “outestine;” the Visitors sold! Next was a rousing game of Pictionary in which the opposing teams played defense, blocking and distracting the guessing team from seeing the image being illustrated; the Visitors dominated. Third was a revival of last year’s audience-participation game, Mannequin. One contestant from each team is the mannequin, and the other participants have to coerce audience members into giving up articles of clothing or accessories to place on the mannequin (I donated my jacket); the team with the most items wins. The Locals hit 40 items and took the round. The Lightning round was fast trivia at which the Visitors triumphed, taking the win. Mr. Knutson’s hosting abilities are fantastic, always keeping the hilarity and commentary flowing, and keeping the momentum going. A gentleman named Strangely, a Rogue favorite, provided in-between round entertainment with some accordion playing, guitar, backwards singing of Happy Birthday, and playing a mash-up of songs whilst the Mannequin competition was taking place. In all, it was a fabulous outing for Fringe Factor where audiences thoroughly enjoyed seeing Rogue performers in their competitive element. Catch Fringe Factor: Season 2 at Mia Cuppa Caffe on: 03/10- 9:30pm 03/11- 5pm Original post... HERE As I have assisted a variety of performers, from clown acts to solo performers to burlesque artists to magicians, I have learned a few helpful tips on packing so that there is a minimum of head-aches and .the props and costumes actually get where they need to go (and undamaged, at that). Take a look at some of the things to consider if you are a touring fringe artist...
